Global climate change has become a critical issue affecting all aspects of life on the planet. In recent years, world attention has increasingly focused on efforts to overcome this challenge. One of the most recent developments that stands out is the commitment of world countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. At COP26 in Glasgow, many countries pledged to achieve zero emissions by 2050. In addition, the use of renewable energy such as wind and solar is increasing. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), world renewable energy capacity will grow by 45 percent in 2020. In Indonesia, the development of PLTS (Solar Power Plants) is increasingly massive with new projects being undertaken. This is done to achieve the New and Renewable Energy (EBT) target of 23 percent by 2025. Carbon capture technology has also received great attention in climate change discussions. Many technology companies are focusing on innovations that can absorb and store carbon dioxide. This method is considered as one solution to reduce CO₂ levels in the atmosphere. In addition, reforestation and forest protection initiatives are highlighted. Forests as the lungs of the world function to absorb greenhouse gases and maintain biodiversity. Local initiatives are also exemplary, such as green city programs implemented in various regions. Cities such as Amsterdam and Copenhagenn have launched sustainable transport schemes with bicycles and electric vehicles. This community-based approach not only reduces emissions but also improves the quality of life. The COVID-19 pandemic has apparently had a temporary positive impact on reducing emissions. During the lockdown, the decline in economic activity led to a reduction in carbon emissions. However, scientists warn that a return to normal conditions should not cause another spike in emissions. The role of civil society is increasingly becoming key in climate change. Movements such as “Fridays for Future” spearheaded by Greta Thunberg have drawn great attention to global warming. Many young people are now committed to environmental activism, raising awareness of the climate crisis. With these developments, it is important to continue to monitor climate change indicators and their impacts. Recent research shows that global temperatures continue to rise, and Arctic ice is melting faster than expected. Firmer regulation and international collaboration in climate change mitigation are becoming increasingly urgent. Investment in green technology and sustainable innovation should also be encouraged. Funding for research and development of environmentally friendly solutions must be a priority for governments and the private sector. Considering that climate change is a global crisis, cross-country collaboration is key in overcoming this challenge. In detail, international conferences and forums such as the G20 and the UN Climate Change Conference continue to be the main platforms for discussing important issues related to climate. Continuously increasing greenhouse gas emissions show how crucial it is for concrete steps to be taken. By maintaining focus on sound policies and sustainability, the world may be able to turn back from the path that led to the climate crisis.
